LONI

The constant beeping noise caused my head to pound as I struggled to open my eyes. I was almost there when a sharp pain through my skull caused me to scream out in pain.

“Loni? Are you awake?”

Kali’s voice sent me into panic mode. The fear in her voice gave me chills and I struggled again to open my eyes, but I was no match for the sharp pain in my head. The monitors started to beep faster and I wanted to pull my hair out until I realized I couldn’t use my arms.

That’s when I started to freak out. My chest heaved up and down rapidly and I felt like I was hyperventilating. The monitors were now beeping so quick and loud that I let out a gut wrenching squeal. It seemed like the only thing I could do was make sounds, because I couldn’t feel my tongue to formulate any words.

I heard a rumble of foot-steps headed towards me and a bunch of mumbling. I couldn’t make out anything anyone was saying anymore as I felt my head become almost as light as a feather. I tried fighting whatever feeling had just taken over my body, but I was much too weak. With each passing second, the voices I heard were starting to sound farther and farther away until I couldn’t hear anything anymore, especially the annoying ass monitors.

I opened my eyes slowly and was grateful that I was able to see a little bit of sunshine. I couldn’t tell where I was right away because my vision was very blurry. I blinked a few times to clear my focus and after a minute or so, I realized I was lying in a hospital bed.

My vision was still cloudy, but I was almost positive that someone was sitting next to me. I tried to move my arm, and though it felt weird, I was glad I could. The brace around my neck wouldn’t allow me to turn my head, so I tried to touch the figure next to me.

“Oh my God! Her eyes are open!”

I saw the silhouette of a person stand up and walk toward the door. I closed my eyes briefly because the longer I had the open, the more my head started to hurt. The lighting in the room was too much for me.

“Her eyes were just open and her hands were moving, I swear.”

On the outside I don’t think I reacted, but I was chuckling on the inside. Kali was my girl, but she was mess. I wasn’t clear on what landed me in the hospital, but I wasn’t surprised that she was the one by my side through it all.

A saw a figure approaching me and could tell that she was either a doctor or a nurse. “That’s good. It means that the Propofol is wearing off.” The doc-nurse leaned over me and pointed a bright light directly in my eyes. Instinctively, I closed them tightly and tried to shake my head.

“Pupils look good.
